Free Saturday. Sun. Family and friends. Zurich District 5. Looking for organic food from one thousand and one nights. Maison Blunt.
As part of our ritual of visiting a new organic restaurant every month, we’ve spent a sunny Saturday afternoon with family and friends at the Maison Blunt in Zurich.
Here our review for the Maison Blunt in Zurich.
Mon-Fri 11:30-14:00 & 18:00-23:00
Sat & Sun 10:00-23:00
Quality
The Maison Blunt offers a large menu with a wide variety of Oriental specialities. In addition to hot and cold mezze, which can be ordered throught the day, there’s also a brunch menu, an alternating daily lunch menu, as well as a dinner menu. We decided to go for the mezze as they include many vegan options.
Lisa ordered mezze from quinoa, an artichoke Bean Salad and Warakinab (rice-stuffed grape leaves) for herself. I’ve also ordered an artichoke Bean Salad for myself along with a small mezze plate and a Harira Ramadan soup with chickpeas and vegetables. As known from the Oriental cuisine the dishes were accompanied by intense and different tastes through the used spices. The vine leaves stuffed with rice were Lisa’s clear favorite. The different mezze were consistently well prepared. Our friends who ordered meat containing mezze, were also satisfied with their food. We didn’t miss anything with regard to quality and taste, that’s why we awarded five out of five points.
Service
From the beginning we felt very comfortable in the Maison Blunt. Although there was much going on at noon, we got enough attention. The waiter was very friendly and we were joking with him. Table tap water and bread was served for free. On the menu the vegetarian and vegan dishes were clearly marked, what greatly simplified the selection for us. Although in the menu it’s written that for a main dish 3-6 mezze are recommended, 3 fully suffice. We have spent a lot of time at the restaurant and felt consistently very good and in good hands, which is why we’re giving away 4 out of 5 points in this category.
Ambience
We were lucky enough to eat in the Maison Blunt’s garden on a warm and sunny day . The garden is surrounded by Apple trees, which create a wonderfully fresh atmosphere. It is located in the backyard, cosy and quiet, away from the streets of District 5. In line with the food inside the restaurant is equipped with authentic Oriental patterns and furniture. The clay tableware used to serve the food supports this atmosphere.
Price
The price for a dish can very well be adapted to ones own budget. From snacks and mezze to brunch, lunch, up to dinner there’s something for every situation. Some dishes can also be ordered for take away.
Olives marinated in lemon.
Different mezze.
Pleasant backyard garden.
